Diverted to LGA...walk around Elmhurst

Diverted to LGA...walk around Elmhurst

After getting bumped over to LGA, we got to the hotel and decided to stroll the neighborhood, I guess it’s Elmhurst. Pete and Dominique and I had fun just trying to make shots of what we saw in a very ordinary neighborhood.

Neon Min-Mon

Neon Min-Mon

Dominique was so happy to get back to Min-Mon and coerced Sommer into getting a bag too. I tried my hand at shooting neon, two neons actually. I think this came out ok, focus wise….light was tough to get both in same exposure level….

Grouping of statuary

Grouping of statuary

We paid a visit to the Elizabeth Street Gardens. I was trying to get the Sphinx but the grouping of statues emerged when editing.

Elizabeth street gardens, spent my time practicing getting focus and depth of field on the new Fuji…..time consuming.

Crossing the bowery, camera was in auto AND I didn’t hit one of the bazillion buttons on the fuji…..full auto, no time since I was in a cross walk!

Subtle brick detailing

Subtle brick detailing

Look at the space between the windows (the corner windows themselves are striking) and there is an elegant brick stacked detail…..modern iranian architects also use brick as a textural architectural element….

This one came straight off the camera in automatic mode, no edits. It doesn’t register until you view full size….

Why can't we have nice things?

Why can't we have nice things?

While Boston gets a sterile crop of glass boxes (Seaport) or box store people warehouses (South Boston), lower Manhattan has some really cool buildings going in (design wise). Of course, they are a bargain……

Bistro Eloise a Jackson Heights

Bistro Eloise a Jackson Heights

A stranger in Elmhurst suggested it, and wow, did they deliver. If you want real French bistro food, you would do well at this place hidden in a strip mall. Sommer spent three hours waiting for United to get our money back!
